Having his knees replaced at ages 59 and 61 by Dr. David Mayman at HSS, he transitioned from debilitating pain to full-court prowess again, defying predictions that he wouldn't play competitively afterward.

He credits his comeback to rigorous pre-habilitation and post-op rehabilitation, reinforcing the message that surgery is only part of the journey; recovery, mindset, and consistent effort complete the picture. Today, at 69, he plays with range of motion intact, free from soreness or stiffness.
